haleakalā from the heart

learned to stay present in moments
just like the glimmer of light that touches the horizon
pinks, yellows, blues, purples
when you see beauty it stops any hurting
and like that light that shines it
teaches us that a cold dark night
ends, there’s always a reason for hoping
there will always be tomorrow
& itʻs true one day there wonʻt
realise humans feel sorrow
hard to walk a tight rope
knowing paths eternal are narrow

Take me to higher skies with her
Somewhere above the clouds
No modern sound, just the whistle of sparrows
Brynlee Alyse, oh how I need her so
Run down empty roads
Watching that golden hair flow
We watch as water drops fall slow
Gaze into your eyes a speckle of green &
gold stare back and glow

God shows me a life content
A pretty girl that reminds me that
we only need 4 wheels, mountains, and a tent
A baby giggles & reminds me we are heaven-sent
We forget to smile @ times for reasons to live
Think to ourself “someones gotta pay rent”
World full of sticks and stones, dollars & cents
Iʻm an old soul, wonder where simple living went
Land for miles, green grass, little ponds
Dirt roads, skipping rocks, long lines of fence
Full day to play, come home for dinner
& a rinse
Lost that life but have been building it
back ever since
Need my ladies touch & scent
A long Sunday walk, somewhere we could get lost
A well lived life, iʻll pay the cost
Keep my standard square & mind out of the box
Sit on a pier with my pretty girl
Get lost in our future as we talk
